Blue Alchemy
Blue Alchemy is an ongoing cyanotype project using water sourced from the Lake Champlain watershed and beyond. Employing the cyanotype technique — an early photographic process reliant on UV light — I begin by saturating the material, generally silk or watercolor paper, with cyanotype chemistry. Once dried, I take the material to the water's edge for exposure. Created in collaboration with the watershed, the final pieces are a tangible representation of the landscape and represent my process of navigating the climate breakdown we are facing in the natural world.
Iterations of Blue Alchemy have been shown in several different spaces, both indoors and outdoors, including the Karma Bird House, the Bennington Museum, Fletcher Free Library and The FRAME at the waterfront in Burlington, VT.
This project has been supported in part by an award from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the Burlington City Arts Community Fund.
